Questions About Therapeutic Support Groups
Who can join a therapeutic support group?
Each group has its own focus and eligibility. Some groups are for young adults, some are for adults, and some are for friends or family members. We help match each person with the group that best fits their needs.
Are the groups confidential?
Confidentiality is an important part of every group. Participants are expected to respect the privacy of others and keep personal information shared in group private. We also review limits to confidentiality during the intake process.
Do I have to share personal details right away?
No. New participants are welcome to listen, get comfortable, and share at their own pace. We encourage honest participation, but no one is pressured to disclose more than they are ready to share.
Are these therapy groups?
These are professionally facilitated therapeutic support groups, not a replacement for individual therapy, psychiatric care, or legal guidance. Many participants use group support alongside therapy, coaching, or other services.
How long are the sessions?
Most groups meet weekly for about 60 to 75 minutes. The exact length may vary depending on the group, the number of participants, and the topic being discussed.
Is there a screening or intake process?
Yes. We speak with each prospective participant before group placement. This helps us understand what kind of support is needed, explain expectations, and make sure the group is appropriate and safe for everyone involved.
Is there a cost to join?
Some groups are included as part of OnwardWell programming, while others may be offered at no cost or with separate participation options. We can explain the cost and availability for the specific group you are interested in.
How do I get started?
The first step is to request a conversation. We will learn more about what you are looking for, answer questions, and help determine whether one of our groups is a good fit.
